Homeschooling with WQSB - Tips for parents

Homeschooling is an option available to all parents under the Education Act
Families interested in this option need to contact Dr. Marian Lothian ,Director of Educational Services for the WQSB at the board office, who oversees homeschooling
Perspective families should inform themselves by reading the Québec Government Policy Framework for Home Schooling which outlines the duties and responsibilities of all stakeholders, and review the Québec Education Program for the grade levels of the children to be home schooled. Both electronic links can be forwarded from our director’s office
The educational yearly plan for each child to be homeschooled needs to be forwarded to the WQSB for approval prior to the start-up of the school year, and general guidance is offered to families as needed
The planning, textbooks and learning materials are the responsibility of the homeschool family
Once approved for homeschooling, students are to be evaluated annually within their local community school during term 3 (April to June). Results are given to parents in order to provide feedback as to how the student is progressing academically.

The Western Québec School Board would like to inform the public of the following:

Security Background Check

Gatineau, August 26, 2014
Parents/Legal Guardians,
The Western Québec School Board is pleased to inform you of the revised procedures and guidelines regarding the Security Background Check (SBC) for current and new employees, volunteers, and service contracts working in our schools and centres. The procedures were updated to clearly outline the process of the SBC, and more importantly, ensure that all individuals in the presence of students and staff members have undergone a SBC.

Consequently, future employees, volunteers, and contract workers will be required to complete a “Declaration Concerning a Judicial Record”; no one will be permitted, in any circumstances, to begin work/volunteer in schools and centres before receiving authorization from the Human Resources Department.

Information regarding the “Declaration Concerning a Judicial Record” is now available on our website (wqsb.qc.ca) and at your local school /centre.

Our responsibility is to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff members of the Western Québec School Board.

Thank you for your cooperation.
