The Canadian Welding Association Foundation (CWA Foundation) presented twelve 1st and 2nd year Welding Program students from WQCC with $2,500 each, through the CWA Foundation’s Secondary and Post-Secondary Awards Programs.
Founded in 2014, both the CWA Foundation Secondary and Post-Secondary Awards Programs were created for the purpose of promoting and encouraging students in pursuit of post-secondary education in welding. Each successful student received $2,500 in financial support to help offset the cost of their studies. Each participating student had to prepare a 750-word essay on their academic achievements, community and school involvement, accomplishments, welding related volunteer or work experience, their personal goals, and their challenges. They also had to include reference letters from a teacher or employer.
Of the twelve, one student was awarded the Joseph Doria Exemplary Student Award. This is a National Award presented to a welding student who shows exemplary perseverance and welding skills.
This prestigeous award was presented to Matthew Smith, who received $3,500 and a state-of-the-art helmet from Joseph Doria himself.
Mr. Doria spoke highly of WQCC’s welding facility, saying it was one of the best he had seen in all of his travels.
