Western Québec School Board proud partner in the 45th edition of Les Jeux du QuébecWestern Québec School Board is proud to be associated with the upcoming 45th edition of Les Jeux du Québec that will take place in Gatineau from July 29th to August 6th 2010. Our Board will be providing shelter and accommodations to three (3) official delegations comprising of a total of approximately 350 people, who will be using the Philemon Wright and Hadley High Schools’ facilities during the games.[complete article]
SCHOOL TAX INVOICINGInvoices for the taxation period of July 1st, 2009 to June 30th, 2010 will be mailed on August 14th, 2009 and will be due on September 14th, 2009. The Val-d’Or tax office situated at 799, 1ère Avenue in Val-d’Or was closed on October 31, 2008 and the Pontiac Tax Office situated at 89 Centre Street in Shawville was closed on March 1, 2009. Please send payments to the Western Québec School Board at 15 Katimavik Street, Gatineau, Québec J9J 0E9. For more information concerning your tax bill contact the Tax Department at 1-800-363-9111 or 819-684-2336, or by e-mail: taxes@wqsb.qc.ca Budget NoticeFor the first time this year, the Québec government must include in its financial reporting the results of all Québec educational and health institutions. Consequently, all boards must now report their finances according to the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This will, on paper, suggest that our board, as most if not all others in the province, is in a deficit position. This is exclusively because of the new requirements to report as liabilities all accumulated staff vacation and sick days, and to account for the depreciation and amortization of school board buildings and other capital assets. What is most important to note is that, although our budget shows a deficit because of new accounting rules, our board has adopted a budget that is fully balanced between the money we will receive and the money we will spend to continue to deliver quality education and services to our students and communities. In other words, we will continue to operate with a balanced operational and capital budget.
