Graduation Requirements

In order to qualify for a secondary school diploma from a Quebec high school, the following Ministry of Education requirements must be attained:

  • A total of 54 credits in Sec. IV and Sec. V
  • 20 of these credits must be at the Sec. V level

Of these credits, the following are compulsory:

Sec. V English

6 credits

Sec. V French (second language)

4 credits

Sec. IV History & Citizenship

4 credits

Sec V Art or Sec V PhysEd

2 credits

Sec IV Ethics & Religious Culture

4 credits

Sec. IV Science

4 credits *min

Sec IV Art

For students coming from outside of the Quebec Province:

If you are arriving in Quebec as a Sec. V student, the MELS will grant retro-credits at the secondary IV level for most courses successfully completed at the secondary V level in order for students to be able to meet the required 54 credits for graduation with the exception of the Sec IV History & Citizenship and Science.
