School ElectionsSection 305 of the Education Act outlines that a property owner who is an eligible voter will be taxed exclusively by the school board in which his name appears on the electors' list. Therefore, it is important to us to ensure the accuracy of our information. All parents with children who are attending our schools will have their names automatically submitted to the English Electoral List. All other eligible voters can ensure their names are submitted to the English Electoral List by making a request to the Director General of the Western Quebec School Board. This request should include their exact name in full, their date of birth, their gender, and complete civic address of domicile. WardsThe WQSB's territory is divided into 19 wards. Each ward carries street boundaries. CommissionersEvery school board is administered by a council of commissioners composed of the commissioners elected or appointed under the school elections act. In addition, there are two commissioners representing the parents' committee, one representing the schools providing elementary instruction and the other one representing the schools providing secondary instruction. Who can become a commissionerEvery person who is entitled to have his name entered on the list of electors of a school board and who, on polling day, has resided in Quebec for a period of six months in the territory of the school board may be elected as a commissioner for that school board. Prior to elections public notice will be given which will include:
Elections:An election will be held every four years for all the seats of commissioner. Poling day:3rd Sunday in November. Elections/VotersA qualified elector is every person who, on polling day, is 18 years of age, a Canadian citizen and been a resident of Quebec for six months, is not under curatorship or been deprived of election rights under section 223.2 of the School Election Act. Electors list:Every elector will be entered on the list of electors in the division in which the domicile is located. To vote an elector must be entered on the electoral list. Qualified Voter:Any elector, who, as of September 30 preceding polling day, has a child who is admitted to educational services provided in schools of a school board having jurisdiction over the territory in which the elector is domiciled may vote at the election of commissioners of that board. ElectionAny elector who, as of the same date, does not have a child who is admitted to educational services provided in schools of any school board having jurisdiction over the territory in which the elector is domiciled may vote at the election of the commissioners of the French language school board, unless he has chosen to vote at the election of the commissioners of the English language school board having jurisdiction over the territory in which he is domiciled. "The elector may exercise such voting option, outside election proceedings, if, on the date the option is exercised, the elector does not have a child to whom section 1 of the Education Act applies who is admitted to educational services provided by either of the school boards having jurisdiction over the territory in which the elector is domiciled."
