Adult Education & Vocational Training

A member of the network of public education institutions in the Outaouais region, the Western Quebec School Board is responsible for providing English language public education. As such, the School Board provides educational services to more than 8000 youth sector and 600 adult continuing education students. Western Quebec encompasses a territory twice the size of Nova Scotia, stretching from the Ottawa-Gatineau border in the south, north to Rouyn-Noranda and running from Namur in the east to Temiscaming in the west. In addition to its youth sector programs the board is authorized by the Quebec Ministry of Education to provide general and vocational education to youths and adults as well as made-to-measure training to business and organizations.

Customized Training to Business

Our Continuing Education Services department offers a wide range of educational services to individuals, businesses, agencies and organizations. Our training includes vocational programs in administration, commerce, auto mechanics, electronic equipment repair, hospitality and service, tourism, health care and technology. Existing technology based programs include computer user support (repair and maintenance of computers) and network system specialist (NACSE certification). Our designation as a Regional Training Centre for the vendor neutral Net Prep curriculum, both secondary and college level, ensures that our teaching professionals will remain current in every related technological development. In addition, we have the ability to develop a program tailored to upgrade your employees skills or to ensure your future employment needs are met.

Our expertise and experience in these fields allows us to offer quality customized education to business and industry. Training in all program areas can be tailored to suit a business' specific needs and can be offered on or off site using flexible scheduling. All our training is delivered by qualified, experienced professionals. Our customized training provides employers with access to recognized, pedagogically sound programs and the management tools required to ensure effective planning, implementation and follow-up to employee training. Training is geared to ensure employees acquire both the practical skills required for success in the workplace and the social and personal skills needed to be effective team members. Complementary educational services include job task analysis, starting a business preparation, human resources development (employee skills: communication; time management; teamwork; quality) testing and recognition of prior learning.

The Western Quebec Career Centre, is equipped with fiber optic to the desktop and the highest quality networking equipment. Through our partnerships with companies such as Net Com and 3 Com we are able to provide a high-end training facility geared to adult learners. Our designation as a Regional Training Centre for the vendor neutral Net Prep curriculum, both secondary and college level, will give residents of the Gatineau-Ottawa corridor access to technology training of the highest quality. Our ties to the Ministry of Education provide us and therefore our customers with links to a network of expertise in research, development and employee training.
